Ingredients:

Buns

¼ cup warm water (110 degrees F / 45 degrees C)
1 package active dry yeast
¾ cup lukewarm milk
1 egg (room temperature)
4 teaspoons white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
3 cups all-purpose flour
½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Filling

2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Sticky Bun Sauce

4 tablespoons butter (divided)
6 tablespoons brown sugar (divided)
2 tablespoons corn syrup or Maple Flavored Pancake Syrup (divided)

Bun Dough Instructions:

Dissolve yeast in ¼ cup warm water, set aside. In a medium mixing bowl combine lukewarm milk, egg, white sugar, salt, baking soda and one cup flour, stir together. Add yeast and mix well. Add one cup flour to mixture, the dough will be very sticky. Put about a half cup of flour on a mixing board or counter top and pour out dough, knead the flour into the dough until the dough becomes elastic and smooth adding flour as needed. Smooth some Crisco Shortenig over the dough, place dough in the mixing bowl and allow to rise until double.

While the dough is rising make Sticky Bun Sauce:

In each of two microwave safe pie pans (I use Pfaltzgraff Tea Rose) put 2 tablespoons of butter, 3 tablespoons brown sugar, 2 tablespoons corn syrup. Microwave eack pie plate seperately for 1 minute, then stir the ingredients together and set aside.

Mix together Filling. 2 tablespoons sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon and set aside.

When the dough has rising double, turn it out on counter and allow to rest for a few minutes. Knead the dough a few times and roll out into a rectangle about 8 inches wide by 15 inches long. Spread the 2 tablespoons of butter from the filling recipe on the rectangle, sprinkly liberally the cinnamon/sugar mixture. Roll up the dough, seal by pinching the edge of the dough to the outside of the roll. Slice in to one inch rounds. Place the rounds neatly in the pie pans, on top of the Sticky Bun Sause mix, 7 rolls in one pan and 8 rolls in the other.

Put one pie plate in the microwave for 1 minute at power level 2 (or the next to the lowest power setting on your microwave), remove and repeat with the next pie plate of Sticky Buns. Allow to set for about 5 minutes. If the rolls are not risen enough, repeat the 1 minutes at power level 2 and allow to set for another 5 minutes. When the Sticky Buns are nicely risen, cook one pie pan of Sticky Buns for 4:45 minutes, remove and put the next pie plate in and cook it for 4:45 minutes.

Place a nice sized plate over the pie plate and turn out the Sticky Buns on to the plate. Be very careful the Sticky Buns are hot, the Sticky Bun Sauce will run down and cover the rolls, serve and enjoy with your friends and family.
